Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra will receive the prestigious Variety Vanguard Award at this year’s Mipcom in Cannes. The award, presented by Variety and Mipcom, honors industry leaders who have made significant contributions to the global entertainment landscape.
Vinciquerra’s leadership at Sony Pictures has been instrumental in the studio’s transformation and success. Under his leadership, the company achieved five consecutive years of profitability while expanding its global footprint through strategic acquisitions and content creation.
The Vanguard Award will be presented to Vinciquerra on October 21 during a keynote conversation at the Palais de Festivals. The event will also feature a new initiative, C-Suite Conversations, designed to provide industry leaders with insights to navigate the ever-changing content landscape.
“Tony Vinciquerra is a visionary leader who has transformed Sony Pictures into a global powerhouse,” said Michelle Sobrino-Stearns, CEO and Group Publisher of Variety. “His strategic acumen and unwavering commitment to excellence have cemented the studio’s position as a leading player in entertainment.”
Lucy Smith, director of Mipcom Cannes and Mip London, added: “Vinciquerra’s ability to adapt to the changing media landscape has been remarkable. His decision to focus on content creation and distribution rather than streaming has proven to be a winning strategy.”
Prior to joining Sony, Vinciquerra held executive positions at TPG, Fox Networks Group, Hearst-Argyle Television and CBS. His extensive media experience has given him a deep understanding of the business and the ability to drive innovation.
